completing your application

To ensure your application is correct:

1. Read all the information under Application Information

2. Download a Fulbright Application Form and save it to your computer.

3. Save the file as your surname_application before beginning to complete any details.

4. The form is to be completed in Arial 10 font, and printed single-sided.

 

The Application Package

There are four (4) parts to the application package.

FSB approval form

A summary of your Fulbright Application Form will be sent to the Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB) in the United States, for approval, should you be successful.

Fulbright application form

Statement of proposed activity

An abstract or summary of your proposed program, followed by a detailed statement.

Personal statement

A one page narrative giving a picture of yourself as an individual outlining your personal history, influences on your intellectual development, the educational and cultural opportunities to which you have been exposed, and the ways in which these experiences have affected you. Also include your special interests and abilities, career plans, and life goals, etc.

Three referee reports

  • The Fulbright Referee Report Form is to be typed by the referee and sent directly to the honorary secretary in your state of residence.
  • Applicants can download these forms and forward them by email to the referees.
  • Referee reports must be received by the application closing date. It is applicant’s responsibility to ensure referee reports are received by the closing date. Applicants whose referee reports are not received are disadvantaged.

Supporting certified copies

Certified copies are copies of original documents which have been sighted and confirmed as a "true copy" by a Justice of the Peace (to locate a JP, look in the Yellow Pages under "Justice of the Peace"). Please note, the Justice of the Peace need only view and certify the documents in the original. The extra seven copies can be duplicates of the certified copy.

You will need:

  1. A degree certificate, (most recent or highest award) - this can be in the form of an academic transcript or your certificate
  2. A letter of invitation from your potential U.S. host institution (if known at time of application)
  3. Evidence of Australian citizenship - e.g. Birth Certificate, biodata from your Australian Passport, or the acknowledgement of application for citizenship
  • The original PLUS seven (7) copies (eight in total) of ALL documentation (i.e. Application Package) is to be sent to the Fulbright Honorary Secretary in your state of residence. The Honorary Secretary will distribute the copies to the State Selection Committee Members. Note - ALL PROFESSIONAL AND SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND REFEREE REPORTS TO BE SENT TO THE PROGRAM MANAGER AT THE FULBRIGHT COMMISSION IN CANBERRA
  • The original Application Form must be signed and dated.
  • Please do not staple or bind your original application.
  • Complete the application checklist on the last page of the application. Note: An incomplete application will disadvantage a candidate. The Fulbright Commission is not responsible for advising applicants of missing documentation.
  •  There are no hard copies of the application or referee forms available from the Fulbright Commission. They are only available through downloading from our web site and must be submitted by post or hand delivered (the forms cannot be submitted electronically). (Note – applicants should keep an electronic copy of their application as they will be asked to provide a copy if they become successful)

Applications must be lodged by close of business on 31 August 2007.
