Conditions of the scholarship
Other Scholarships |
Fulbright Scholars can be in receipt of other scholarships concurrent with the Fulbright Scholarship, with the exception of the General Sir Monash Award. A General Sir Monash Award and a Fulbright Scholarship can not be held concurrently. |
APA recipients |
In 2005, the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) guidelines were amended. APA recipients can suspend their APA Award to undertake a Fulbright Scholarship without penalty. Duration of the APA Award is not reduced by any periods of international study. |
Employment |
Scholars can receive payment for their services (i.e. guest lecture, performance, teaching assistance, research) in the U.S. as long as it directly relates to, and does not interfere with their Fulbright program. |
J-1 Exchange visatwo year

Scholars must travel on a "J-1" visa sponsored by the Fulbright Program. |
Funding period |
Funding is for a maximum of four to twelve months, depending on the scholarship. |
Scholarship period |
Scholarship must be started between July 1 and June 30. |
Non-transferable scholarship benefits |
The benefits offered under a Fulbright Scholarship are not transferable either in whole or in part to any other person or for any other purpose. Any significant change in a scholar's plans from those stated in the original Scholarship application must be approved by the Fulbright Commission before any benefit under the Scholarship will be given or continued. |
Host institution |
Applicants must prove affiliation with a host U.S. institution, via a formal letter of invitation, or proof of enrolment. If affiliation is in progress but unconfirmed at time of application submission, please provide any email/s or copies of informal correspondence which indicate current negotiations. |
Travel |
An allowance for travel is provided. Scholars are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and where possible, must use U.S. or Australian airlines for their flights to and from the United States. |
