South Australian Chapter

The SA Chapter of the AFAA is a small but dedicated group of Fulbright Scholars who enjoy welcoming in-coming Fulbright Scholars to our beautiful city, as well as maintaining connections with SA-based Fulbright Alumni. Given we’ve all benefited in many ways from the generosity of the Fulbright Program and all experienced what it is like to live and work in the United States, we like to celebrate the common bond we share and the conversations we have with like-minded individuals.

Our Chapter is small but dedicated and enthusiastic. We enjoy supporting our SA Scholars while they are away (including giving them an appropriate ‘send off’ prior to them leaving) as well as supporting and welcoming in-coming Scholars who are new to Adelaide.

"I’ve been involved with the AFAA since I became a Scholar, and attend my first AGM in early 2008 before I left for my US experience! I’ve been active with the Committee since returning and have been the Chair since 2010. As a previous Scholar, I also sit on the South Australian Fulbright Selection Committee (since 2010).

Having an on-going involvement with the Chapter is both valuable and important. It enables me to meet and become friends with some truly remarkable and inspiring people, who are passionate about their work and dedicated to making a difference. My personal Fulbright experience was rewarding and life-changing, and I believe it’s important to foster a true sense of ‘Alumni’ upon returning to Australia, as we all share that common experience and know what it means to be a Fulbright Scholar."

"The Fulbright Scholarship offers unique opportunities during and well after ones scholarship term has ended.  Taking on the role of AFAA SA Chapter Secretary has provided a linkage and opportunity to meet esteemed Fulbrights, like the Distinguished Chair, visiting and returning scholars and Fulbrights who hold or have held senior positions. The knowledge and willingness to share amongst the Fulbright community, which is made up of leading people who may not otherwise be accessible, is immeasurable!"
