A simply wonderful brunch was had by those Fulbright Alumni and friends that gathered at Maggy's house to celebrate the 4th of July. Arnold April, a Fulbright Senior Specialist currently in Tasmania, joined us for the festivities. Arn will be giving some public lectures during his time in Tassie - details for the lectures can be found here. Arnold is also a frequent blogger. His blog can be found at www.capeconsults.org/arnies-blog. It includes some very interesting musings on his experiences in Australia thus far. |

This is hot on the heels of our recent Dim Sum Degustation at Marigold Restaurant in Sydney's China Town. The Dim Sum Degustation was a great hit, with amazing Cantonese Cuisine and interesting guests. Attendees included this year’s scholars from the US, a new awardee from Australia, a US Fulbright who has moved back to our sunny shores and a number of Fulbright regulars. Much fun was had by all.
Start brushing-up on your trivia as our next event after our dinner at the Belgian Beer Café will see us take on the regulars at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel!
Victoria
On Thursday 26 April the Victorian Fulbright State Reception was held in honour of the 2012 Fulbright Scholars. The event was held at the University of Melbourne and was hosted by Professor Glyn Davis AC, Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Following the reception the Victorian Chapter of the AFAA hosted an informal dinner which was attended by some 30 people, including current Australian and U.S. Scholars, Fulbright Commission board members and staff, Alumni and Friends of the Fulbright Program. We were also honoured to host Professor Howard Schweber, Fulbright Distinguished Chair in American Political Science at Flinders University, at the dinner.
We have plans to host 2-3 informal Fulbright 'lounges' in the remaineder of the year, which will give Alumni the opportunity to meet for a drink, listen to a guest speaker from the Fulbright Alumni community (including recently returned Scholars) and join informal discussions over dinner. We also have plans to hold a formal Salon at the Consul General's residence. These events are planned for U.S. holidays and festivals such as Independence Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. More information will be posted soon!
