Applicant Information

Applications for Fulbright Scholarships to Australia are managed in the United States through the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). See below for more information.

Australia has a wide range of excellent educational institutions, including 38 universities offering various forms of undergraduate and postgraduate study and research (see links below for more detail). Over 180,000 international students come to Australia to study each year.

Australia is a politically stable, safe and friendly country that welcomes international students and visitors. It has excellent living standards, with lower studying and living costs when generally compared with the United States.

Australian universities have more institutional links with U.S. universities than any other country in the world and Australian universities annually host over 5,000 United States study abroad students.

U.S. Postgraduate Students

Applications for the 2015-16 cycle open on 1 May and close on 17 October 2014.

For current American university graduates to undertake an 8-10 month program of research towards their American PhD and/or undertake up to a year of research in cooperation with an Australian university of educational institution; or to support enrolment in an Australian postgraduate program.

U.S. Senior Scholars

Applications for the 2014 -15 cycle open on 1 February and close on 1 August 2014.

For academics (generally at Associate Professor or Professor) to undertake 3 – 4 months research and/or teaching at an Australian institution.

Fulbright Distinguished Chair Programs

Applications for the 2015-16 Fulbright Flinders University Distinguished Chair and the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology open in February and close on 1 August 2014.
