Welcome to the new U.S. Ambassador
Issued 27 November 2009
The Australian-American Fulbright Commission welcomes the appointment of Ambassador Jeff Bleich and looks forward to working with the Ambassador as our Honorary US Co-Chair for the Australian-American Program, in partnership with our Honorary Australian Co-Chair, The Prime Minister. The US Embassy in Canberra, and the US Consulates, have always supported the program through membership of our Board, as participants on our scholarship selection committees, and as generous hosts for events.
Ambassador Bleich stated in his testimony before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as part of his confirmation hearings, that he was committed to finding ways to increase educational and cultural exchange between our nations, which fits well with the aims of the Fulbright program. He is also very knowledgeable about the US higher education sector since he received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College, his masters in public policy from Harvard University, and his law degree from The University of California at Berkeley. He has also taught international human rights at UC Berkeley's law school.
