A partnership of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission and the CSIRO National Research Flagships program.
The Fulbright CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship to Australia was established in 2008 with the first Scholarship awarded in 2009. Valued at up to AUD35,000 this scholarship supports an American citizen to undertake 8-12 months postgraduate research in Australia related to their American PhD.
The Fulbright CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship provides the opportunity for American citizens to undertake 8-12 months postgraduate research with Australia’s leading and largest science research organisation, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), working on Australia’s most ambitious scientific research program, the National Research Flagships.
This research can be related to an American PhD program. The recipient will thus have the opportunity to gain international experience and build collaborations with Australian scientists as part of their postgraduate studies.
As a result of the experience, Fulbright Scholars often end up with an international marker for their PhD and international joint publications forming a basis for long term ongoing international research collaborations and exchange between their U.S. university and CSIRO.
CSIRO has more than 6,000 staff working on outcome focussed scientific research to benefit industries, communities and the environment. The USA has long been CSIRO’s most important international partner.
The CSIRO National Research Flagships focus on addressing major challenges and opportunities through long term, multidisciplinary, collaborative research leading to widespread adoption of outcomes.
There are ten National Research Flagships in the following areas that are open to Fulbright applicants:
