Applications for the inaugural Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology are open from February until August 2012.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology was launched at Parliament House in Canberra, by Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowden on 25 May 2011.

Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science & Technology to Australia is aimed at attracting outstanding U.S. researchers to work in Australia in priority areas of basic research and to lead to ongoing collaborative partnerships between Australia and the U.S. to develop skills and capabilities in emerging fields of science and technology.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair will be appointed to the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), or another Australian research institution that is linked to DSTO for the relevant research program. The Chair will work on a specific research project during their term, but be expected to engage with faculty and students through occasional guest lectures and seminars, and also explore long-term collaborations and institutional linkages. The project must meet the objectives of the Fulbright program to foster mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange.
