Applications for the 2012 Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships are open 1 May to 18 October 2011.
Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships are available to American citizens to engage in 8 - 12 months of research relevant to an American PhD in cooperation at an Australian university or educational institution; or to support enrolment in an Australian postgraduate program.
The Commission offers thirteen Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship for U.S. citizens to visit Australia annually.
Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarships are open to all fields of study.
The Fulbright CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship was established in 2008, with the first scholarship awarded in 2009. The Fulbright CSIRO Postgraduate Scholarship provides the opportunity for American citizens to undertake 8-12 months postgraduate research with Australia’s leading and largest science research organisation, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation).
A Fulbright Scholarship opportunity in Australia was established for American graduates in the field of business or economics in 2009. The Fulbright ANU College of Business and Economics Postgraduate Scholarship provides the opportunity for American citizens to undertake 8-12 months postgraduate research with ANU College of Business and Economics. The first Scholarship was awarded in 2010.
Fulbright Scholarships in Climate Change and Clean Energy were announced by the Prime Minister of Australia the Hon Julia Gillard and U.S. Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton in November 2010, were established to increase collaboration on clean energy research and to address the social challenges of responding and adapting to the impact of climate change.

Australian universities have also, where possible, traditionally waived tuition fees for U.S. Fulbright Postgraduates who are enrolled in course work. (These waivers are given at the discretion of each institution and are to be negotiated between the scholar and their host institution).
