Applications for 2012 Fulbright Senior Scholarships are open 1 March to 1 August 2011.
Fulbright Senior Scholarships are available to American citizens to engage in 4 - 6 months of research or teaching at an Australian institution. The scholarship is directed towards academics at the level of Associate Professor and/or Professor.
The Commission offers five Fulbright Senior Scholarships for U.S. citizens to visit Australia annually.
Fulbright Senior Scholarships are open to all fields of study.
Senior Scholarships are valued at up to AUD27,000 and include:
Senior Scholars also receive the following allowances for dependants. The dependants must accompany the Scholar for 80% of the Australian visit to be eligible for these allowances.

| February | Australia’s National Selection Committee makes the final selection and recommendation to the Australian-American Fulbright Commission Board for approval. |
| March | Applicants are notified of the selection outcomes (pending final
approval by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in the United States). |
| July 1 – June 30 | Fulbright Scholarships are to be taken-up in the following year after July 1st. Scholarship must be started after July 1st and before June 30th. |
