Fulbright Professional or Senior Scholarship in Nuclear Science and Technology

ANSTO undertakes research that advances the application of nuclear science and technology in areas as diverse as materials, health, climate change, mining and engineering. It applies innovation in nuclear technology, for Australian industry and business, and also provides the international research community with state-of-the-art facilities to advance knowledge of how the world works, at the atomic level.

Scholarship benefits in 2011 (for up to 6 months):

  • Valued at up to AUD40,000 for study and research in the United States, primarily at a US university, or a research centre affiliated with a university, or with prior FSB approval at a research centre not-affiliated with a university.

This Scholarship is for Australian citizens wishing to carry out research or study in the United States of America in the field of nuclear science or technology.


Fulbright Professional Scholarships are available for junior to mid career professionals, poised for advancement to a senior role from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors (outside academe), or junior to middle level academics whose professional focus is industry related and whose research and sharing of results within the industry is clearly outlined. As a guideline, Professional Scholars are generally aged between 30-45 years. The scholarship supports a program of professional development in the United States.


Fulbright Senior Scholarships include: Practising professionals who have established reputations in their fields; Scholars of established reputation working in an academic institution who intend to teach or undertake research; Senior members of academically-based professions who are currently engaged in the private practice of their profession; or recognised academic or professionals who have been invited to the United States by an educational, research or professional organisation for a significant short-term research or study program.


The Scholar will receive (tax free in Australia):

Stipend: $5,200 per month for a maximum period of 6 months

International travel: $6,300

Benefits include: Transport and accommodation to attend a two day Orientation Program and the Fulbright Presentation Dinner in Australia (March); Transport and accommodation to an Enrichment Seminar with international Fulbright Scholars in the U.S; Additional networking opportunities with Australian, U.S. and international Fulbright Scholars and alumni.
