The primary funding for the Fulbright Program in Australia is provided by the Australian and United States governments. This core funding is supplemented by the generous support of a select group of sponsors including companies, universities, foundations, state governments and government agencies.

CORPORATE/FOUNDATIONS

BHP Billiton is the world’s largest diversified resources company, formed through a merger between BHP, one of Australia’s oldest and largest companies, and Billiton one of the world’s premier mining companies. The Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship in Engineering and Science sponsored by BHP Billiton was established in 2000.

Telstra is Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company. The Fulbright Telstra Scholarship supports innovative Australian students who have a commitment to advancing technology and communications. The inaugural Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship in Technology & Communication sponsored by Telstra was granted in 2005.

Anthony Joseph Pratt

The Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship in the Visual and Performing Arts sponsored by Anthony Joseph Pratt has been supported by the Pratt Foundation since 1996. It has provided the opportunity for many distinguished young Australian artists and musicians to study performance art at institutions throughout the United States.

UNIVERSITIES

The Fulbright ANU Distinguished Chair in American Political Science sponsored by the Australian National University was established in collaboration with the Australian National University. This scholarship is for a leading U.S. professor to conduct collaborative research at the host institution along with guest lectures at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Fulbright Tasmanian Scholarship co-sponsored by the Tasmanian Government and the University of Tasmania, was established in 2006.

The Fulbright Tasmanian Scholarship was the first state-sponsored Fulbright Scholarship and annually provides an opportunity for a talented Tasmanian to undertake study or research in the United States for three to twelve months.

The Scholarship is open to Tasmanian residents, covering all fields of study in all scholarship categories, including; Postgraduate, Postdoctoral, Senior Scholar and Professional to undertake 3-12 months research or study in the U.S.

GOVERNMENT

The Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Vocational Education and Training sponsored by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. This scholarship supports employees within the vocational education and training sector or training leaders in business and industry. It is also for staff within universities that teach in the TAFE sector of a university, but not for university academics that study VET as an academic discipline.

The Fulbright Indigenous Scholarship supported by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations . This scholarship was originally established in 1993 with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) and has supported Indigenous Australian Postgraduates to undertake research and study in a wide range of fields including visual arts, business, public health, law, education and history.

To recognise the 50th Anniversary of the ANZUS Treaty in 2001, the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon Alexander Downer MP announced the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s support for a Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Australian-United States Alliance Studies sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) . The DFAT Scholarship encourages new research and discussion on issues affecting Australia and the United States.  

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

Fulbright Queensland Scholarship Fund

The Fulbright Queensland Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 by contributions from the Queensland Government and the eight Queensland universities.

Fulbright Western Australia Scholarship Fund

The Fulbright Western Australia Scholarship Fund has been established by the WA government, WA based universities and companies, individuals and foundations.
Fulbright Victoria Scholarship Fund The Fulbright Victoria Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 by contributions from the Victorian Government and the Victorian universities.

Fulbright Australian Alumni (WG Walker) Scholarship Fund

The Australian Alumni (WG Walker) Scholarship Fund was established in 1993 through generous contributions from Australian Fulbright Alumni to annually support a scholarship for the highest ranked Australian Fulbright Postgraduate.

Fulbright U.S. Alumni Scholarship Fund

The U.S. Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 through generous contributions from U.S. Fulbright Alumni and a scholarship is awarded annually to the highest ranked U.S. Fulbright Postgraduate.

Fulbright Coral Sea Scholarship Fund

The Coral Sea Scholarship Fund was originally established in 1992 by U.S. Ambassador Mel Sembler and U.S. companies to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea. This fund, managed by the Fulbright Commission, supports a Fulbright Professional Coral Sea (Business/Industry) Scholarship focusing on an issue of relevance to both Australia and the United States.

TRAVEL GRANTS

Fulbright Gregory Schwartz Enrichment Grants

In 2006 Claire and Steven Schwartz established the Fulbright Gregory Schwartz Enrichment Grants in memory of their son Gregory Schwartz who had a love of history and a strong interest in the United States. The grants are aimed at assisting Australian Fulbright Postgraduate Scholars enrich their experience in the U.S. through attendance at a conference; exhibition of their art work; presentation of their professional work; and/or visiting other research institutions.

SUPPORTERS
