Fulbright Indigenous Scholarship Opportunities

The Fulbright Indigenous Scholarship is for an Indigenous scholar to undertake a research or study program in the United States, and is available in any field of academic study, across any category – Postgraduate, Postdoctoral, Professional and Senior.

The scholarship was established to recognise Indigenous leaders’ commitment to achieving excellence, while seeking an international perspective and collaboration through their studies/research. The scholarship was originally established in cooperation with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) in 1993 and is now supported by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Benefits, rights and responsibilities and program duration of the Fulbright Indigenous Scholarship are as per the applicable category’s general scholarship. If you’re not sure which category is applicable to you, please return to the Australian Applicants page for more information.

Please note – your application is automatically considered in the relevant general category however in order to be considered for the Indigenous scholarship you will need to specify this on your application form. Please see the applicable checklist and PDF instructions for details.
